Having a general pest treatment once a year is a popular option with many of our residential customers, as it keeps homes free from pests for many months. Every home in Australia should be professionally inspected for signs of termite activity at least once a year, so having a general pest treatment at the same time as a termite inspection is a good way to save time and money.

Key Pests in Beenleigh

The 3 key pests in Beenleigh are:

  1. Termites
  2. Ants (including fire ants)
  3. Spiders

Termites are active all year round in the soil around Beenleigh. The warm, humid conditions are ideal for them to thrive, so they are continually on the lookout for new sources of food (wood) to consume. As homes are at risk of termite attack all year round, having regular termite inspections, usually once a year, is an essential step to protect a home.

Ants are a common pest in many homes, particularly during the summer months, with kitchens and outdoor areas being activity hotspots. Some ants will excavate the sand beneath pavers, creating an unstable surface that is a potential trip hazard. Having a professional ant treatment is the best way to control these ants as well as nuisance ants that find their way indoors. AllPro Pest Control also provide professional fire ant treatments.

Web-building spiders can be present at any time of year, while wandering spiders (like white-tail spiders and huntsman) will be more common in summer and autumn. Having a ‘spider spray’ once a year is a quick and easy way to keep them outdoors.

Termite Inspections and Termite Treatments - Beenleigh

With conditions in Beenleigh being so well suited to many termite species, we recommend that our customers in Beenleigh have a termite management plan in place for their property.

The first step is to have a termite inspection each year – this is the minimum requirement for all homeowners, as termites can cause a lot of damage in just a few months. The second step is to install a termite management system as this will minimise the risk of a termite attack. The type of termite treatment most suitable for a property depends on a number of factors, including the age and design of the house. The two most common options are termite baits, which are installed around and under the property or a soil treatment, where the soil around the perimeter of the home is treated to make it less likely for foraging termites to pass through.

Without a termite management system in place, having a termite inspection twice a year is the safest option.

Beenleigh - Interesting Facts, Weather and Pest Control Recommendations

Beenleigh is 33km southeast of central Brisbane and is a commuter belt suburb, with many residents catching the train to the city.

Originally, the Yugambeh people are the custodians of the land, which is part of the Bundjalung country. The history of the area is preserved by the Yugambeh Museum in the town.

Colonisation began in the 1860s, with John Davy and Frank Gooding establishing a sugarcane plantation, which they named Beenleigh after their family estate in Devon, England. Meanwhile 6km to the northwest, German missionaries were establishing farms on the Logan River.

Steeped in colonial history, some of the main employers within the suburb include the rum distillery, the beef slaughterhouse and the sugar mill. Beenleigh Artisan Distillery (pictured above) has changed hands numerous times in recent decades and remains the oldest distillery in Australia, having been established in 1884.

Beenleigh was the site of the country’s first ever Mitre 10 MEGA store, which opened in 2004. In 2008, Beenleigh became part of Logan City (it was formerly under Gold Coast City).

Like other suburbs within Logan City, Beenleigh summers are long, humid and typically wet. Winter is short, with temperatures rarely dropping to single figures. This continuing level of warmth and moisture makes Beenleigh an excellent location for many pests, which thrive in damp, warm conditions. Having a general pest treatment every year, usually in the spring, will keep pest numbers in check. But for termites, installing a termite protection system is highly recommended given the likelihood of termite attack.
