Wynnum has a strong aboriginal history with evidence of aboriginal settlement in Quandamooka (Moreton Bay) dating back over 25,000 years. Although Europeans arrived in the area in the 1840s, it wasn’t until the railway was built in the 1880s that European settlement took hold.
Perhaps the most notable recent development in Wynnum was the opening of Pandanus Beach in 1987, having been constructed by bringing sand from North Stradebroke Island and building rock groynes to protect the beach from erosion by the waves.
Wynnum has a typical sub-tropical climate with wet summers and warm winters – perfect for pests of all types! The mangrove areas make Wynnum a mosquito hotspot, as the saltwater mosquito is capable of flying several kilometres from their mangrove breeding sites.
Homeowners and business owners in Wynnum need regular pest treatments to keep pest numbers down and spring / summer mosquito treatments are often required to ensure outdoor areas can be enjoyed. Being a sub-tropical climate, termites are very active and annual termite inspections are a must. Installing a termite protection system to protect your home from termite attack is strongly recommended.
