Logan is on Yugembah land. European settlement began in the area after Captain Patrick Logan discovered what became know as the Logan River in 1926. Although originally cotton was grown, the area soon became dominated by sugar cane.
Logan city is now a large council area containing some 70 suburbs and an area of significant population growth. There are extensive industrial and commercial areas, with a variety of small to medium businesses. Logan is also a major transport hub, with both the M1 motorway and mainline train running through the council area.
